What's in this blend, and why:
Stinging nettle is rich in vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids, polyphenols and pigments — many of which also act as antioxidants inside your body - and has been a staple in herbal medicine for thousands of years. We include it in this blend primarily for its effect on seasonal allergies. Stinging nettle extracts can block histamine receptors and stop immune cells fro releasing chemicals that trigger allergy symptoms.
Horsetail has been used as an herbal remedy as far back as the Greek and Roman Empires. A perennial fern that grows wildly in America and Northern Europe, horsetail is prized for its effects on bone health. Up to 25% of horsetail's dry weight is silica - a higher concentration than found in any other plant. Research suggests that horsetail may aid bone healing due to its high silica content, which improves the formation, density and consistency of bones and cartilage tissue. Its high silica content is thought to be the reason why horsetail has been also been used as a beautifying herb around the world for centuries. Silica helps boost collagen production which is important for healthy hair, skin, and nails. Horsetail also contains selenium and cysteine, which are known to promote healthy hair growth. Furthermore, the antioxidant content of horsetail helps reduce micro-inflammation and the aging of hair fibers.
Peppermint has antioxidants that increase circulation and allow white blood cells to travel faster throughout the body, increasing the speed with which your body can fight off viruses and bacteria.
Spearmint has the ability to soothe digestion, improve the immune system, protect the body against fungal infections, and lower inflammation.
Astragalus root bolsters the immune system, reduces inflammation, and helps to regulate normal blood sugar levels.
Rosehips are one of nature’s richest sources of vitamin C and also contain many important antioxidants. Did you know that white blood cells contain 20 times the amount of vitamin C than other cells, and that they require constant replenishment to keep the immune system working to its optimum capacity? Rosehips also show promise for digestive health (rich in pectin) and weight loss (tiliroside accelerates fat metabolism and improves the body’s utilization of glucose).
Hibiscus flowers add even more Vitamin C and a nice dose of deliciousness to this blend.
Eleuthero root has many traditional health benefits including brain and cognitive support, energy support, stress support, immune support, and glycemic support.
Oatstraw - the leaves and stems of the oat plant - contain very high iron levels, as well as manganese and zinc.
